Knewton Global Schools Officially Take Over Tenby Schools Miri

Bonanza Educare

Tenby Schools Miri is now officially Knewton Global Schools, under new operator Bonanza Educare Sdn Bhd. Knewton Global Schools will continue to operate three schools on its Senadin campus; an international British school, private national school and pre-school, for pupils aged 3 – 16 years.

The new name marks a milestone in the school’s 98-year history, and reputation as one of the longest established international schools in Malaysia. Originally situated in Piasau, known as Piasau School, set up to serve the expatriate community of mainly oil workers. In 2011, the growing school selected Tenby Educare to operate the school and moving to its current campus in Senadin, and adding a Private National school to meet the diverse demands of the community. In 2016, founder of Tenby Schools, Dato’ Lim Si Boon sold Tenby Educare but remained the landowner of the Miri campus. Forming a new education group, Bonanza Educare Sdn Bhd, the team welcomed back the Miri campus in August 2019.

Bonanza Educare continue to build an educational portfolio of international and national schools, pre-schools and enrichment centres across Malaysia. Knewton Global Schools’ Campus Principal Ms Wee Sim Lam said: “Our new name and look is combined with a renewed ambition to provide the best opportunities for our young people to be the best they can be, no matter what challenges they may be facing. “We’re hosting musical, artistic and sporting competitions, with an official naming ceremony hosted live on Facebook on Friday, 5 June. The campus has been closed since the Movement Control Order and our students and teachers have adapted successfully to a distance learning programme, so to honour new ways of working, the new name will be launched online.”

Referring to all schools being closed, Ms Lam added, “I would like to thank everyone – staff, parents and students – for the ways in which we have united in responding to the pandemic so far. We have a collective responsibility to ensure that our students are safe and have continued to learn from home. Resilience and self-organisation has been key and we should all be very proud of what is being achieved. “It is vital that we are able to keep pace with the changing needs of industry. The world is innovating faster than ever before and to stay ahead we must continue to nurture each student. We all look forward to welcoming students back to school as soon as is safely possible.”
