The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

What is The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award?

Knewton Global Schools is proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. The Award is an internationally recognised and exciting self-development programme for young people from the age of 14 to 24 years old. Over 7 million young people, worldwide, regardless of background, culture and physical ability, have taken up the Award challenge in over 130 countries.
How the Award works
By taking part in the Award young people will have the opportunity to extend their learning outside of the classroom in a non-formal setting.  The Award is a personal challenge and not a competition against others; it pushes young people to their personal limits and recognises their achievements consistently.
The Award framework

The Award comprises three levels and four sections. Participants complete all four sections at each level in order to achieve their Award. Knewton offers the Award at Bronze level as a starting point.

  • Voluntary Service:
  • Participants undertake service to individuals or the community where they volunteer their time and understand the benefits of service.
  • Physical Recreation:
  • Participants take part in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities to improve their health and fitness.
  • Skills:
  • The Skills section encourages the development of personal interests and practical and social skills.
  • Adventurous journey:
  • As part of a small team, participants will plan, train for and undertake a journey with a defined purpose in an unfamiliar environment.

Duke of Edinburgh Award at Knewton

October 2021 saw the first of the Knewton’s cohort to embark on the experience. Over the months the students have acquired new skills that go beyond the classroom. Through teamwork and persistence the students have gained a sense of purpose and insight that will serve them well in their futures.
