Admission Policy

• All students seeking admission into Knewton Global Schools are subject to the admission requirements stated above.
• It is not the policy of Knewton Global Schools to place students in year levels above their chronological age according to the UK (International stream) or Malaysian (National stream) enrolment dates given.
• The maximum number of students per class is 25 except in Early Years where there are 20. Once this number has been reached Knewton Global Schools will operate a waiting list for each year group. When a place becomes available in a year group the School will offer the place to the first student on the waiting list providing, they meet all the entry admission requirement for the year group they are applying for.
• Special arrangements can be made for overseas candidates who are not able to take assessments or be interviewed. The applicant may be offered a provisional place. The offer of admission can be withdrawn if the school later determines it cannot meet the child’s needs following either the classroom observation or admissions tests. Students who are applying from abroad can only reserve a place by paying the full registration fee. This registration fee is non-returnable if the student does not take up the place.
• Students who require additional learning provisions to access the curriculum successfully will be assessed to determine if Knewton Global Schools can provide a suitable education. In order to determine whether the school can meet a student’s individual learning needs to ensure successful personal and academic development, his/her needs will be carefully considered against the current levels of staffing, expertise and resources within the school. This means that students with additional learning needs are accepted into the school on a case-by-case basis. A potential student’s learning needs are identified via the student background section on the student application form; submission of their previous school reports; interview and any admissions assessments. Once the needs are identified, the Campus Principal will then review the application.
• The Campus Principal will consider any extenuating circumstances such as the admission of siblings where one would be denied a place because their year group is full whereas there is a space for their sibling in another year group.
• The Campus Principal/Head of School is responsible for assigning students to the various classes. Students will not be assigned according to parent or/and student requests.

• On initial contact from the parent/guardian (either online, by telephone or in person), the Admissions Officer will advise the parent/guardian if there is a space available or if there is a waiting list in operation and the number on that year group’s waiting list. The parent/guardian will have the option of then submitting the application form so that their child’s name can be added to the waiting list if there is space on the list.
• To gain admission into Knewton Global Schools, parents will need to complete the application form and submit this together with the following documents:
  1. Copy of child’s passport (non-Malaysian);
  2. Copy of child’s birth certificate and MyKid (Malaysian);
  3. Copy of parents’ passport/MyKad;
  4. Copy of parent’s work permit/visa (if relevant);
  5. Copy of child’s previous school reports for the past year;
  6. Most current letter from company if the company is providing financial educational support;
  7. One (1) passport sized photograph
• A mutually convenient assessment date and time will be scheduled.
• The application fee will have to be paid latest on the assessment day itself.
• If the student is academically suitable for a place at Knewton Global Schools, they will be offered a place or added to the waiting list.
• A letter of offer and acceptance form will be issued to parents.
• The acceptance form must be returned before the deadline and Registration Fee, deposit and term fees due must be paid before the student joins a class.
• Knewton Global Schools do not refund any fees paid for admissions application and testing.

Knewton Global Schools are non-selective and use the GL Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) as a means of assessing potential, in order to best decide whether our schools will be able to meet a student’s educational needs.

CAT4 assesses a student’s ability to reason with and manipulate different types of material through a series of Verbal, Non-Verbal, Quantitative and Spatial Ability tasks. The online tests are taken during the assessment period and in order to be considered for a place, prospective students will be expected to demonstrate they have at least average potential in these tests (an SAS of 98 for verbal reasoning and an SAS of 100 for quantitative, non-verbal reasoning and spatial ability). Students will sit the test applicable to the year group appropriate for their age.

Students who do not achieve these scores will be considered by the school on an individual basis and prospective students may be invited in to the school for an additional interview and/or asked to provide further evidence of their aptitude in such areas as English Language and Bahasa Malaysia, before a final decision is made.

Applications for Nursery are welcomed for the academic year starting after the child has or will have turned 3 years of age. Observations to join Nursery will be held between March and May in preparation for entry into the school in September.

If or when a space becomes available in Reception or Foundation Year, the student will be invited to have an observation period in the appropriate class. The class teacher will carry out an observation of the student and more formal age related activities where appropriate. Feedback to the Head of School/ Campus Principal will be given in writing and a place offered to the student if Knewton Global Schools is appropriate for their education.

• If or when a space becomes available, the student will be invited to have an observation period in the appropriate class.
• The class teacher will carry out an observation of the student and more formal age-related activities for English (including phonics) and Mathematics.
• Students enrolling for Year 3 and above will be required to sit for the CAT4 test.
• Feedback from the Head of School will be given in writing and a place offered to the student if the International School is appropriate for their education.

During the admissions process students are assessed as follows:

• Standard 1: The student will be assessed through a written assessment for Bahasa Melayu and English.
• Standard 2: The student will be assessed through a written assessment for Bahasa Melayu and take an online assessment using the Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT) PRE-A which tests their Verbal and Non-Verbal and Quantitative Ability.
• Standard 3 to 6: The student will be assessed through a written assessment for Bahasa Melayu and take an online assessment using the Cognitive Abilities Test 4 (CAT4) which tests their Verbal, Non-Verbal, Spatial and Quantitative Ability.
• The student will be required to meet the Head of School for an interview.
• The Head of School will have an interview session with the parents.
• After the admission assessment and interview, the student will be invited to have an observation period in the appropriate class if needed.
• The subject teacher/Head of School/Campus Principal will carry out an observation of the student in the class.
• Feedback from the Head of School will be given in writing and a place offered to the student if the National School is appropriate for their education.
• If or when a space becomes available, the student who is under the waiting list will be invited to sit for the admission test and interview follow the admissions process above.

• If or when a space becomes available, the student will be invited to come in for a placement test.
• The Student will be required to sit for the CAT4 test and meet the Head of School for an interview.
• The Head of School will meet have an interview session with the parents (if required).
• Feedback from the Head of School will be given in writing and a place offered to the student if the International School is appropriate for their education.

• During the admissions process students are assessed as follows:
• Form 1 to 5: The student will be assessed through a written assessment for Bahasa Melayu and take an online assessment using the Cognitive Abilities Test 4 (CAT4) which tests their Verbal, Non-Verbal, Spatial and Quantitative Ability.
• The student will be required to meet the Head of School for an interview.
• The Head of School will have an interview session with the parents.
• After the admission assessment and interview, the student will be invited to have an observation period in the appropriate class if needed.
• The subject teacher/Head of School/Campus Principal will carry out an observation of the student in the class.
• Feedback to the Head of School/Campus Principal will be given in writing and a place offered to the student if the National School is appropriate for their education.
• If or when a space becomes available, the student who is under the waiting list will be invited to sit for the admission test and interview follow the admissions process above.

• The student will be assessed through a written assessment for Bahasa Melayu for those transferring from International to National.

To be offered a place in Knewton Global Schools, a student will have:

• Demonstrated academic and intellectual potential that meets the year level expectations. Knewton Global Schools accept a managed number of students with mild to moderate learning needs.
• Demonstrated English oral and written skills that meet the year level expectations: Students who require English Language support are admitted based on the minimal expectations of each section of the school and the school’s capacity in meeting the needs of the students.
• Demonstrated ability to build respectful, responsible and collaborative relationships as outlined in the school behaviour codes. Knewton Global Schools accept a managed number of students who require social, emotional or behavioural support.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to school life outside of the academic day.

The School will notify the parents within 10 working days, starting from Assessment day, of the application outcome.

• Successful: A place is offered at the School.
• Unsuccessful: A place is not offered at the School. They can reapply again in the following term or year.
• Conditional: A place is offered on a conditional basis with specific terms and conditions set, including a review date, mutually agreed by both the school and parents.

• Students will not be offered a place in the final year of the IGCSE/UPSR/SPM course (Year 11/Standard 6/Form 5) unless they have been studying the same course in a similar school setting.

Places will be offered in the following priority order:

1. Those with siblings already enrolled in the school with the exception being the student did not meet minimum entry requirements.
2. Children of Knewton Global Schools employees.
3. Children transferring between the National and International Schools.
4. Expatriate children moving to the country for the first time.

This policy is a guideline only and does not create any right to a place at Knewton Global Schools. We reserve the right to offer or refuse to offer places to any child at any time in our absolute discretion without offering any reasons or giving any explanation.
